MARYANN LANE PORTERI live my life in widening circles.
—Rainer Marie Rilke |
Growing up in a close-knit community paved the way for eventually living in a cohousing setting that supports aging in place, expanding horizons, and living and working together for a greater good.
Maryann’s personal life and her practice as a clinical social worker have encouraged her to take part in developing small-scale groups supporting a variety of experiences, such as study groups, women’s empowerment circles, and a parenting group that befriended and has sustained she and her husband and their children for the past 30-plus years. She has also been active in developing collegial groups designed to share the joys and challenges of a work life devoted to assisting others. Newly retired (at least for the moment), she is heartened by the opportunity to live in a neighborhood where people work together to foster connection and community. It is exciting to have time to devote to all of the things she loves—spending time with her husband, connecting with their children, reading, gathering with friends, engaging in artistic pursuits and spiritual exploration—and to contemplate what lies ahead as she lives in “widening circles.” |
