ART GALLERY

“One must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star.” —Friedrich Nietzsche
Sand River is home to a gifted group of people who paint, draw, write, weave, stitch, photograph, make music, sing, dance, and more. While some have received professional recognition for their work, all have walked the courageous and adventurous path of creative expression. You are invited to look and listen.

AUTUMN ART SHOWS 2022

Two concurrent art shows in the Santa Fe area feature the work of three gifted Sand River residents—Joany Raina, Rose Driscoll, and Nancy Clark.

Nancy's vibrant landscapes are featured in a solo exhibit at Cerrillos Station Gallery in Cerrillos from September 24 through October 22. The expressive artistry of Rose Driscoll and Joany Raina are represented in The Spell: The Magic of Words and Imagery, running from October 6 through December 8 at SFCC Visual Arts Gallery.
JOANY RAINA — Joany's work explores the healing potential of embodied personal stories though the use of primitive form. Her art offers ways to embrace and transform our personal biographies. She says, "It is the living representation of our inner life that moves me—life with all its warts and playfulness. To embrace and expose ourselves to our tender stories is the very thing that excites and motivates me to create this work."

ROSE DRISCOLL — According to Rose, the saturation of human consciousness with the immense verbal and visual data generated by digital technology can leave us lost to ourselves and our power. The Iron Maidens are a visionary response to this phenomenon. These archetypes of feminine strength act as "portals of transmittance" to assist us in reclaiming our personal power.

NANCY CLARK — Nancy loves painting en plein air in New Mexico's amazing world of mountains, cobalt blue skies, and its infinite ever-changing show of clouds. She is happiest in such a place where the light continually defines the edge of beauty.

Star-fold accordion book by Joan Plummer
In mid-May 2022, artist Joan Plummer facilitated a hands-on bookmaking workshop for interested members of the community. Joan demonstrated how to create a "star-fold accordion," with participants then adding their own images and special papers to individual pages. The Well Being Team sponsored the workshop and provided supplies. Participants included Jill, Maryann, Nancy, and Rose.
