John and Karen are delighted to be living in Santa Fe at Sand River. John’s great aunts lived in Santa Fe and Taos for many years and the couple visited northern New Mexico almost every year for roughly four decades before moving here.
Both are scientists and humanitarians. John worked in computer-assisted drug design for the pharmaceutical industry and consulted on data base management before retirement. Karen is a biologist who has researched solitary bees and pollination and taught introductory biology at an Idaho community college. Her website is pollinatorparadise.com. In the Vinson's former home, they had a market garden and sold produce at a local farmer’s market for a number of years. Sand River’s orchard and its commitment to pollination and ecological principles—along with the interesting people who live here—drew them to the community. The couple has two cats. Joey is a grey tabby and Charlie is black-and-white with a bad left eye. Karen can often can be seen roaming the grounds in one of her many broad-brimmed hats as she advocates for the landscape. John has a reputation for bad puns. The two hope that they can aspire to living up to the message on their COVID-19 masks, courtesy of Karen’s cousin’s non-profit activategood.org: Do Good. Be Kind. Change the World. |
