FRANK CLYDE
1955–2023

Picture
"We make a living by what we get
but we make a life by what we give."

—Winston Churchill
During Frank's first weeks in Santa Fe, he and his wife Marvel set about to explore the natural beauty of their surroundings, including a variety of trails in the mountains above the city. In between their outdoor adventures, their search for a permanent residence brought them to Sand River Cohousing, where they subsequently made an offer on their future home.

After walking down the alameda through the heart of Sand River one morning and finding themselves being warmly greeted by a number of residents along the way, Frank and Marvel knew they had made a good decision in choosing to live in a place such as this with its spirit of community. Their walking destination that day was the nearby Arroyo Chamiso Urban Trail, which continued to be a favorite hike for them in the three years Frank lived here.

Frank found the balance he had hoped for during his brief time at Sand River (just two days shy of three years), where he developed strong bonds of friendship with others during work activities and shared meals.

Frank enjoyed sharing his Sand River life with family, including daughter Asia, son-in-law Colten, and grandsons Connor and Hunter, who visited in early summer 2023. His sister Diann stayed with Frank for two weeks while Marvel traveled in Europe with her sister and brother.

FRANK'S LIFE IN COMMUNITY

Frank will be missed by many in the community who remember him with fondness. In the words of a few such folks:

"Frank was a master problem solver who would immediately think of ways to address a dilemma. He inspired us to go beyond our perceived abilities to fix an issue ourselves, thereby saving our community thousands of dollars." ... "He liked to be helpful. Despite an at-times gruff exterior, he was a kind man with a soft heart who brought skills and intelligence to a history of helping around the community." ... "Frank was a mensch who took on big projects with gusto and was always ready with a helping hand. I loved his blue blue eyes and the way he spoke of his love for Marvel." ... "A superb raconteur who regaled us with past remembrances that always brought smiles and laughter." ... "Frank was a wonderful guy who was a joy to be around. He was generous with his time and skills. I loved his feistiness and jaded comic outlook. I will dearly miss him." ... "He was always the smiling face, willing to help wherever he was needed, including with several projects around my house. Even in his last days he was there to share his expertise." ... "Frank gave me simple solutions for problems I was going to hire a technician to fix. I miss being able to bounce ideas off him." ... "Frank was a generous person, always willing to help, creative in solving problems, straightforward, honest, open." ... "His smile."
